Woman raped near Gaithersburg pool

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly raped a woman Tuesday night near the intersection of Washington Grove Lane and Emory Grove Road, near the Upper County Community Center on a path that leads into the woods in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Greg Whitesell/Examiner A 29-year-old Gaithersburg woman was pulled into the woods near the Upper County Pool and Recreation Center in Gaithersburg and raped Tuesday night, Montgomery County police said.

The woman had gone out for a walk when a black man in his 40s approached her, pulled her into a wooded area, raped her and ran off. The woman immediately called police who brought a K-9 unit, officers on foot and a state police helicopter to search for the suspect.

The rapist is described as 6-foot-3, with a medium build and crew cut. He was wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

Police want to make sure residents recognize that it is getting darker outside earlier and plan recreational activities accordingly. Evening walkers should bring a cell phone with them and be aware of their surroundings, including pulling iPod headphones out of their ears.
