Cheers & Jeers: In Miami, it’s the U vs. the Dolphins

POSTED August 21, 2008 | 12:05 AM

Clinton Portis isn’t about to shy away from a sack-happy defensive end. Not when it comes to his university. Excuse us; not when it comes to the U.

Portis and Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor went back and forth for a minute about who was more popular in Miami: the NFL’s Dolphins or the Hurricanes.

“He’s just jealous because the U is really the team in Miami,” Portis said. “They’re bigger than the Dolphins. It’s a jealousy thing, knowing that he was competing with me for attention when I was in college and he was in the NFL.”

A day earlier, Taylor said, “Coming from the U, they get uppity at times.”

So back to Wednesday. As Portis spoke, saying, “Man, don’t nobody go to the Dolphin games. They could be playing the Patriots.”

Taylor then brushed through the media and “knocked” into Portis and offered a loud, “Excuse me?”

“That’s Dolphin stadium,” Taylor said. “No one went to the games; that’s why they shut the stadium down.”

To which Portis said, “Which stadium got more history? ... He’s a sore loser.”

Um, yes, they were just having fun.
